How To Get A Suntan Safely

Being in the sun for several reasons is good. First of all is the well-known benefit of production of vitamin D in the body, because sunlight enhances the production of this vitamin. Then again sunlight also enhances the production of serotonin which is a mood-enhancing hormone. However, too much exposure to the sun can cause premature aging and skin cancer. Then again we all love to have that tan on our skin which so many people like. So what is the way to enhance the color of your skin without being exposed to the harm caused by sunlight?

Apply the right sunscreen

IT is advisable to not just rely on the SPF and instead look for broad-spectrum or UVA logo along with the word high. Opt for a sunscreen which has an SPF of 30 to 50 and re-apply it every two hours. If you have dark skin, then SPF 15 is sufficient.

Understand your tanning time

There is a physical cut-off point for tanning when the skin cannot produce any more melatonin. Melatonin is the tanning pigment, and it is responsible for the darker color of the skin. Hence you can see that it is no use lounging in the sun for the whole day. Usually two or three hours is enough, in fact, you may need even less if you have very fair skin. If you remain in the sun for longer than that, you may be subjecting your skin to the risk of UV damage.
